How Often Should I Get A Massage?
Did you know that massage dates back to 5000 years ago?! Overtime, our ancestors have used the practice of massage therapy for pain relief, curing illness/sickness, and heal injuries.
From the earliest know treatments dating back to 3000 BCE in India, people have been using massage to enhance their human experience, optimize overall wellness, and decrease pain and injuries.
A common question that is asked by our clients is how often they should get a massage. This is a great question! The simple answer, it really just depends on your ultimate goals! 'Every Body is Different', and requires a different set of maintenance and attention.
Here are our recommendations:
- Although some people come in up to 2-3 times a week, the longest recommended time is 4-6 weeks for overall maintenance.
- If you are healing from an injury, working on a chronic ailment (migraines, shoulder pain, flexibility, etc), or fixing postural issues, we recommend coming in every 1-2 weeks. (REMEMBER: issues cannot be fixed in one session alone. You have built up these issues over months/years. It will take some time for the body to heal and adapt)
- Athletes: You know your body best. How do you feel after a massage? Loose? Lighter? More flexible? AWESOME! How long does that feeling last? 2-3 weeks? Whenever you start to feel like you are tightening back up, or that troublesome hip starts bothering you again, THAT is your threshold. Mark that length of time down in your calendar and use that timing as your indicator to rebook your next massage.
Moral of the story, our ultimate goal for our human experiences is to be happy, experience life and feel AMAZING! If you are feeling any less than that, it is time to focus more on your wellness. Become in tune with your body and listen to what it needs!
